The 12th Annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner Party and Auction was held on Thursday of last week, the evening of October 4. The theme for the benefit dinner was “Step Up to the Plate for Education,” as usual the Macon County Education Foundation benefitted from the evening, to the tune of $23,917 raised.

It is only slightly less than the amount raised last year, according to EF Treasurer Katherine Raum. “We are very pleased with the number because we had 40 fewer attendees than last year,” she said. “We have also felt that the economic slowdown has really just now hit Macon County, based on our business experiences. So we are very pleased.”

The table sponsors, all returning from last year, were: Jeff Duncan Investments & Tooley Carver Insurance, Lafayette Children’s Clinic, Citizens Bank, Macon County General Hospital, Macon Bank & Trust, North central Telephone Cooperative, Nestlé Waters (2 tables), Linda McCrary for MCEF Board of Directors, and Honorary Chair Shelvy Linville.

The evening’s celebrity waiters were Billy Snyder, Ron Alan Powell, Jay Linville, Angie Sullivan, Ryan Cothron, Brandon Woodard, Lori Jones (2007 Waiter Extraordinaire), Chelsea Robinson, Tara Haehl, Marco Lisi, Andrea Flynn, Amy Phelps (2007, 2010, and 2011 Waiter Extraordinaire), and Leslie Goad.

Catering was by Linda’s Cakes and Catering, who provided a menu featuring bacon-wrapped filet minion and Linda’s signature desserts. Red Barn Winery donated the space for the dinner, as it has for years.

Woody Hunt, Head Coach of the Baseball Team at Cumberland University, gave a short talk on “dreams.” The pro bono auctioneering of Ben Bray, made possible by item donations from dozens of business and vendors, capped the evening with another round of generous donation.
