Cathy Stafford, Transition Coordinator with the Macon County Schools Service Learning Program, spoke at last week’s Rotary Club meeting. Stafford gave an overview of the program, in which students apply skills to address everyday problems in a real world setting, stating that “providing service to the [work] site is the first priority.” Approximately 40-50 students each year participate in the program, which reaches over 20 sights in the community.

Judge John D. Wootten, Jr. was presented with the Multiple Paul Harris Award at the meeting. The Paul Harris award is given to Rotary members who contribute a specified level of monetary support to the Annual Programs Fund, PolioPlus, or the Humanitarian Grants Program.

The Rotary club is a service organization devoted to various projects supporting the community-at-large, including Makin’ Macon Fit, the Macon County 3rd Graders Dictionary Initiative, Boy Scouts, the Macon County High School Interact Club and the Junior High Interact Club, as well as scholarships. For more information on your local club you can call president Barry Doss at 615-633-7490.
