A young Lafayette couple lost their home Tuesday morning in a fire of unknown origin.
Jonas Barton said that he was at work, and his wife Jayme was at a friend’s house, when the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning.
The Lafayette Fire Department received the call at about 5:30 AM and arrived at the scene shortly thereafter.
“It was pretty much fell in when we got there,” said Troy Brawner, Assistant Chief of the Lafayette Fire Department. There were ten firemen, one engine, a water tanker and a support truck on the scene. It took them two and a half hours to get the flames under control.
The log house with an addition, located at 3240 Union Camp Road, was originally owned by Barton’s parents. Jonas and Jayme were married in October of 2012, at which time they became the sole occupants of the house.
“I’m pretty shook up,” said Barton. “This is the house I grew up in. And we don’t know… how it got started.” He said that the home was not insured.
