The Macon County Sheriff’s Department harvested and destroyed a total of 54 marijuana plants from two separate locations on Monday. Thirty-nine of these plants were reported from a location on Hoskins Hollow Road in the Rocky Mound community. The plants were large and mature, said Sheriff Mark Gammons, and must have been deliberately and carefully grown in order to have flowered so early in the year. Gammons said that they expect to indict one or more persons in regards to the case by the end the week. Fifteen more plants were brought in at the same time, but under much different circumstances: a farmer on Carthage Road in Red Boiling Springs discovered them and called them in himself. “A local farmer was working his land and saw what appeared to be marijuana plants, so he called us to come take a look,” said Gammons. “After we went to his farm, we did locate fifteen marijuana plants growing on his farm. This time of year we start looking and harvesting marijuana, on through October usually, we start finding stuff.” The marijuana plant can seed, reproduce, and spread without human interference.
