A Lafayette woman was killed instantly in a one-vehicle wreck just north of the KY border last Wednesday. Her boyfriend, who was driving the car, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Betty K. Carr, age 59, was a passenger in the 2008 Nissan traveling southbound on Bradley Rd, which is the continuation of Scottsville Rd in Lafayette. It was driven by Ricky Thompson of Portland, TN, age 56, who lost control of the vehicle, according to Allen County Sheriff Jeff Cook.
“It just struck the bridge abutment, which is the end of the bridge,” said Cook. “She was laying in the back seat of the vehicle.” Carr was pronounced dead on the scene by an Allen County coroner.
Family members said that Carr had not been feeling well, and that Thompson was taking her to get medical care.
Thompson was taken by ambulance to The Medical Center of Bowling Green, where he was treated and transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville for surgery.
