On Friday, the Macon County Tigers went back to work after the disappointing losses in the Nera White Tournament. The Tigers had Senior Trey McPherson back in the lineup after McPherson broke his nose in the game against Obion County in the Nera White Tournament. McPherson wore a protective mask to play.

The Tigers had one of the best games of their season, as they stormed back from a 15 point deficit in the second half to win the game 78-72!

The first half was shaky for the Tigers. Goodpasture would have the lead after the first quarter thanks to the incredible three point shooting and inside power. Goodpasture knocked down four three pointers in the first quarter alone and led 23-12. The three point shot was Goodpasture’s bread and butter in the first half, as they knocked down seven of their nine threes in the first half. The Cougars led the Tigers 38-31 after the first half.

The second half started off bad, but soon evolved into one of the greatest comebacks Macon County has ever seen! Goodpasture came out after halftime on half, scoring eight unanswered points. The lead was fifteen points with 5 minutes left in the third quarter. However, Senior Tyler Clark took the reins in the third quarter. Clark knocked down three three-pointers in a span of 3 minutes to pull the Tigers within 6! Mayson Shrum knocked down a three and pulled the Tigers within three! Then, Goodpasture would foul heavily. The Tigers would knock down every free throw and take the lead 58-51 after three quarters of play! The fourth quarter continued the amazing run of the Tigers. With the crowd screaming and the Tigers’ offense executing perfectly, there was no way the Tigers would fall. And they didn’t. The Tigers went on to win 78-72!

Leading the Tigers in scoring was Tyler Clark. Clark had a fantastic game, as he scored 23 points. Clark knocked down clutch threes and clutch free throws. He couldn’t do it alone, though. Dalton Shrum quietly scored 20 points, and Trey McPherson, playing through injury, scored 19. McPherson also hit some clutch free throws in the later half of the game. Aaron Carter had 4 points, Mayson Shrum had 3, Justin Tucker had 5, and Daniel Gregory had 3.

The Tigers next game will be on Tuesday, January 8 at Greenbrier immediately following the girls’ game.
