The 10th annual Lions Learning Retreat was held on January 11-13, 2013 in Manchester, Tennessee. Twelve members of the Lafayette Lions Club attended the retreat. The LLR provided an excellent opportunity for participants to improve their skills in becoming Lion leaders while enjoying the company of other Lions from various districts. Keeping with the theme of International President, Wayne Madden, the theme of the Retreat was “A World of Service”.
The mission of the Lions Learning Retreat was to offer a weekend retreat designed to provide individual Lions with tools to use in their local clubs to enhance and improve their opportunities to succeed in serving their communities and Lions Clubs International.
The retreat offered various seminar topics the attendees chose to attend. Each night the members were treated to dinner, a speaker, and entertainment. A gift basket contest and auction was held during the three day event, as well as, door prizes being handed out all three days.
During the last day of the retreat, the members were treated to a special speaker during breakfast. The speaker was Ashley Jackson. Jackson is a student from the Tennessee School for the Blind and is completely blind and almost totally deaf but her world is not dark and silent. Ashley delivered a very powerful and emotional message on the obstacles she has overcame in her nineteen years of life. Before the end of the retreat, the Lafayette Lions Club received a prestigious award. They were named the club with the most members in attendance.
