The U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware has approved Heartland Publications' pre-negotiated Chapter 11 Bankruptcy plan today (Friday). No creditors voted against the plan. It is expected to go into effect around April 30, at which time the company will officially emerge from bankruptcy.

Heartland is the owner of the Macon County Times.

This is of course great news, but really it doesn't change much on our end.

  • I really didn't know what to expect when the process started on Dec. 21, but ultimately, it has been seemless. Really, not much has changed.
  • All employees get paid on time and no benefits have been reduced. Heck, we continued with our 401K match!
  • There has been no interruption in supplies, paper, ink, plates, film or other critical items need to produce a newspaper.
  • At every operation for which I have responsibility, we have been fully allowed to fill every position that has become vacant due to employee departure.
  • We haven't laid off any employee.

The Macon County Times keeps working hard for you. We continue to grow and will continue to serve you with quality journalism, excellence and honor.
