The Lafayette Police Department will use laser guns to crack down on speeding around the square, Lafayette City Attorney Jon Wells said Thursday night.
"They have two laser guns," Wells said at the beginning of a meeting of Macon County Revitalization, Inc., at the Welcome Center.
Also, LPD will begin ticketing people for jaywalking on the square, Wells said.
In 42 years, only one person has been struck by a car while crossing the road around the square, Wells said. That person was killed in the incident, which occurred in the late 1960s.
"A man came around the square with ice and frost on his windshield and couldn't see," Wells said.
