On November 19, the Macon County Tigerettes took on Clay County Lady Bulldogs. The Tigerettes came out of the gate hungry for a victory and would receive it in this game, beating the Lady Bulldogs 54-37. All around great play and solid defense made this game an easy victory for the Tigerettes.
The entire game was a well-played game for both teams. The thing that killed the Bulldogs was their inability to knock down shots. As the game went on, Clay County get attempting three after three. Nothing was falling for them though. It was a constant struggle. Macon County, however, settled for jumpshots and lay-ups. They would feast on these, and would cruise to the easy victory of 54-37.
Terra Pryor was the Tigerettes leading scorer in this game with 16. However, Kailyn Brooks wasn’t far behind her with 13. Kelsey Gregory had 10, and Lindsey Belton came in off the bench with 6.
The Tigerettes next game was against Trousdale County. Although many thought Trousdale County would put up a fight, the Tigerettes completely destroyed the Lady Jackets, winning this game 84-23. The Tigerettes defense and offense was the best of the season.
The Tigerettes started the game on a dominating note: by opening up with a 13-4 run. The Tigerettes had four three-pointers in the first quarter alone! The second quarter, however, was a historical quarter for the Tigerettes. The Tigerettes scored 32 points in the second quarter and held Trousdale County to zero points! The score at halftime was a whopping 55-6! The Tigerettes came out after halftime and continued to put up more points. Trousdale County was overwhelmed. They would, however, put up 17 points in the second half. But it didn’t matter. The Tigerettes had already secured this game 84-23.
Surprisingly, not one Tigerette completely dominated this game. There was an all-around great performance by all members of the team. Terra Pryor led the way in scoring with 12 points. Kailyn Brooks had 11 and Kelsey Gregory had 8. Off the bench, Leah Anderson had 8 points, Reese Shrum had 5, and Lindsey Belton had 6.
The Tigerettes third game of the week (first of the Lebanon Classic) was against a talented Page team. Page would score 50 points in this game, but the Tigerettes would easily trump that with 66, winning the game by a score of 66-50. The Tigerettes offense was firing on all cylinders.
The first half was very close, as it looked like Page would get the best of the Tigerettes. But the Tigerettes came out after halftime with their guns blazing, knocking down almost every shot they put up. Seniors Kelsey Gregory and Kailyn Brooks were on fire in this game, as they both seemed to score almost all the points (together they scored more than half). They both took the “bull by the horns” per say, and they both put up stellar numbers.
Kelsey led the team with 21 points and Kailyn had 18. Combined, they scored 39 of the team’s 66 points! However, they couldn’t win this game alone, as Seniors Terra Pryor and Whitney Wilburn did their part by scoring 16 combined points (Terra with 7, Whitney with 9). Leah Anderson had 6 points off the bench as well.
Another positive was the team chemistry in this game. If one player was in a shooting slump, her teammates did what they could to help her get out of that slump, and that is what basketball is all about.
The Tigerettes final game of the week (and the second of the Lebanon Classic) was against Lebanon. The Tigerettes were 3-0 on the week and were looking to remain perfect. Needless to say, they would easily triumph over the talented Lebanon Lady Blue Devils 54-41. Strong defense helped power the Tigerettes to victory.
The Tigerettes fought hard in this game. It seemed Lebanon would never go away and just kept trying to come back. The Tigerettes kept them down though. The Lady Devils were a very talented squad of girls. If they went in for a layup, you could almost always count for it to go in. However, the Tigerettes put the clamps down in the second half and shut down anything the Lady Devils had planned. The Tigerettes kept the lead in the fourth quarter and went on to win 54-41. They would leave Lebanon winning both games by at least 13 points.
Kelsey Gregory led the way in scoring with 18. Kailyn Brooks also had a great game with 11 points. Terra Pryor had 9, and Whitney Wilburn had 4. Briley Driver came in off the bench with 4 points as well.
The Tigerettes next week of games will be November 27 at Gordonsville at 6 and November 30 at Gallatin at 6:30. Come out and support your Macon County High School Tigerettes!
