Last Tuesday, the Macon County Tigerettes took on Greenbrier. The Tigerettes absolutely dominated the game offensively and defensively. Macon County won this game by forty points, 69-29. The Tigerettes ran away with the game early, and Greenbrier couldn’t even dream of catching up.
The first quarter began the supremacy. The Tigerettes scored an unprecedented twenty-eight points in the first quarter while holding Greenbrier to only eight points. The second quarter was just as good for Macon County, as they scored thirteen points while holding Greenbrier to five. The score at halftime was 41-13.
The game should have been ended after the first half. Greenbrier wasn’t going to come back. However, they continued playing. Macon County put up nineteen points in the third quarter, and Greenbrier scored nine. The score after three quarters was 60-22. The fourth quarter was slow for both teams surprisingly. Macon County scored nine points in the fourth. Greenbrier put up seven. The final score was 69-29.
To the surprise of many, Greenbrier actually had more three-pointers than Macon County. Greenbrier had five three-pointers. Macon had four. The Tigerettes didn’t have a completely dominating scorer. Leah Anderson led the Tigerettes in the scoring with 14 points. Terra Pryor had 11 points. Briley Driver had 10, and Kailyn Brooks had 9. Jade Ellis came off the bench and scored a season-high eight points. Kelsey Gregory had seven points. Lyndsey Belton had four, Whitney Wilburn had two, and Reese Shrum had one.
The girls’ next game was against Sycamore. The Tigerettes played a solid game defensively and won the game 55-43. The Tigerettes played a strong first half to secure the victory.
The first half showed Sycamore struggling to make baskets. Macon County scored well over half of their points in the first half. Macon County had the lead at halftime and after the first quarter. The Tigerettes shot the three ball well, as well as driving the lane. Sycamore couldn’t keep up.
In the second half, the Tigerettes didn’t score as many points. However, they pulled away in the third quarter. Sycamore couldn’t play catchup from beyond the arc, and the Tigerettes went on to win the game 55-43.
The Tigerettes will be celebrating Senior Night on Tuesday, February 5. This will be their final home game. The Tigerettes will also travel to Westmoreland on Friday, February 8th.
