The Red Boiling Springs City Council decided Tuesday night to hire Corey Halliburton as the city’s new certified police officer.
Two applications for the position were received, and the Council opted for Halliburton with a 6-0 vote in a special called meeting at City Hall.
Halliburton was recommended by RBS Police Chief Terry Tuck.
“I’ve looked at both of them (applicants),” Tuck said. “I would recommend Corey Halliburton.
“He was raised here and went to school here. He’s a certified officer with the Clay County Sheriff’s Department now.”
Halliburton’s hiring comes with a 12-month probationary period and a starting salary of $12.92 per hour. There is a $1 per hour increase after the probation period.
Halliburton, who lives in Clay County, might be willing to move to RBS, according Tuck.
Either way, though, Tuck said living inside the city or county limits isn’t a requirement for the job. However, Halliburton, or any other officer not living within the limits, would not be able to drive the patrol car to and from work.
In other news, the Council opted not to vote on whether to increase the garbage rate for commercial/daily customers from $225 to $600 per month. Instead, a three-person committee will look at the issue and report back at the Jan. 14 meeting.
