While most students were enjoying the Christmas break from school, the Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs basketball program stayed busy competing in two tournaments. The Lady Bulldogs first played in the Classic Tournament at Pope John Paul II in Goodlettsville (tournament 1). There they played a total of 3 games. After a very short break, they traveled to Scottsville, KY to compete in the South Halton Classic (tournament 2), playing two games there.

Scoring Summary in Game 1, Tournament 1, vs. Christian Academy of Louisville on December 20th:

First quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 8 Christian Academy of Louisville 18

Second quarter-RBS Lady Bulldogs 15 Christian Academy of Louisville 31

Third quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 18 Christian Academy of Louisville 45

Final Score- RBS Lady Bulldogs 23 Christian Academy of Louisville 57

The tournament started off bumpy for the Lady Bulldogs losing to their first opponents by a total of 34 points. They just couldn’t seem to find their groove in this game. By the end of the first quarter, they were down by 10. Going in at halftime, they were down by 16 points. Coming out for the second half, the Lady Bulldogs were only able to score 3 points. It was the same story in the fourth quarter. They were able to score 5 points but that was no match for their opponents 12 points. The ending of this game was not because of lack of trying to make baskets. The Lady Bulldogs did their fair share of shooting attempting 31 two point shots but were only able to successfully make 7 of those for 22.6%. From the three point line, the Lady Bulldogs shot 10 times, making 2, for 20%. Their opponents sent them to the free throw line 9 times. The Lady Bulldogs were able to gain 3 points from the line. Individual stats for the Lady Bulldogs:

#10 Kelsey Jenkins with 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 4 points

#14 Kaitlyn McCarter with 2 rebounds and 1 point

#35 Mayson Burgener with 11 points

#40 Katie Hix with 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2 points

#45 Hannah Smith with 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 1 steal

#50 Kalisha Lynch with 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 5 points

Scoring Summary in Game 2, Tournament 1, vs. Christian Academy of Louisville on December 21th:

First quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 20 Hendersonville Christian 13

Second quarter-RBS Lady Bulldogs 40 Hendersonville Christian 18

Third quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 56 Hendersonville Christian 26

Final Score- RBS Lady Bulldogs 61 Hendersonville Christian 37

The Lady Bulldogs were bound and determined not have a repeat of the previous night’s game. They came out strong and proved they belonged on the court. By the end of the half, the Lady Bulldogs were able to go in the locker room and rest easy with a 22 point lead over Hendersonville Christian School. The Lady Bulldogs momentum did not slow during the second half of play. They outscored their opponents by 8 points in the third. The Lady Bulldogs were outscored in the fourth quarter by 6; however, it wasn’t enough to top the Lady Bulldogs earlier streak. They went on to win the game by 24 points. Even though they won this game, the Lady Bulldogs two point shooting percentage was down much like the first game. They shot 44 times from the two point range and nailed 10 of them for 22.7%. The Lady Bulldogs attempted to make 25 three pointers. They did hit 8 of them for 32%. From the foul line, the Lady Bulldogs shot 26 times, hitting 17, for 65.4%. All season long, turnovers seem to play a factor in the performance of the Lady Bulldogs. However, in this game, turnovers were not a major factor, as they only had 12. Rebounding played a huge part in the Lady Bulldogs victory. Together, as a team, they had an outstanding 33 offensive/defensive rebounds. Helping the Lady Bulldogs to a victory was:

#14 Kaitlyn McCarter with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 blocked shot

#25 Mckinzie Hix with 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 points

#32 Alexis Ouellette with 2 rebounds and 1 steal

#33 Olivia Atkins with 2 rebounds and 4 points

#34 Sydney West with and assist

#35 Mayson Burgener with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 7 points

#45 Hannah Smith with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 6 points

#50 Kalisha Lynch with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, and 10 points

#52 Emily Gregory with 1 rebound and 1 steal

And rounding out the scoring and having an exceptionally great game was Senior #40 Katie Hix. Hix had 6 rebounds and 1 steal. She added a whopping 25 points to the Lady Bulldogs final score.

Scoring Summary in Game 3, Tournament 1, vs. Hillsboro High School on December 22th:

First quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 4 Hillsboro High School 11

Second quarter-RBS Lady Bulldogs 17 Hillsboro High School 25

Third quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 28 Hillsboro High School 31

Final Score- RBS Lady Bulldogs 38 Hillsboro High School 44

Going into the last game of the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs fought a touch match, but came up short losing by 6 points. The Lady Bulldogs held their own against Hillsboro High keeping the game close for all four quarters. But, in the end, the Lady Bulldogs offense couldn’t find the basket enough to overtake their opponent. From inside the two point paint, the Lady Bulldogs threw up 26 shots. They hit 9 of those for 34.6%. From the three point arc, the girls attempted 17 shots, making 3, for 17.6%. They were fouled enough to go to the foul line 17 times. The Lady Bulldogs converted 11 foul shots into points for 64.7%. Individual stats or the Lady Bulldogs were:

#10 Kelsey Jenkins with 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 5 points

#14 Kaitlyn McCarter with 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 4 points

#35 Mayson Burgener with 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 8 points

#45 Hannah Smith with 2 rebounds

#50 Kalisha Lynch with 4 assist, 1 steal, and 13 points.

Shortly after this tournament the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Scottsville, KY and played in the South Halton Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs went 1 for 1 in this tournament.
