The Red Boiling Springs High school basketball program squared off against the Westmoreland Eagles for the second time this season in less than two weeks.

Scoring Summary in Girls Action vs. Westmoreland on December 18:

First quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 6 Westmoreland Lady Eagles 8

Second quarter-RBS Lady Bulldogs 10 Westmoreland Lady Eagles 25

Third quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 13 Westmoreland Lady Eagles 35

Final Score- RBS Lady Bulldogs 17 Westmoreland Lady Eagles 38

The Lady Bulldogs basketball team may have underestimated the strength of the Westmoreland Lady Eagles on Tuesday, December 17, as RBS Lady Bulldogs suffered a 38-17 loss to the Lady Eagles. The Lady Bulldogs defense kept them at bay for the first quarter keeping the score low with the Lady Bulldogs 6 and the Lady Eagles 8, but the Lady Eagles dominated the rest of the game. The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Bulldogs by 13 points in the 2nd quarter giving them a comfortable lead of 25 to 10 at halftime. Second half play was slow for both teams with the Lady Eagles scoring 10 points to the Lady Bulldogs 3 during the third quarter. During the last quarter of the game, both teams scored a combined 7 points, ending the game with Westmoreland Lady Eagles on top. Again, the Lady Bulldog’s defense proved to be effective this game. During the last meeting of these two teams, the Lady Eagles scored 20 more points (scoring a total of 58 points in the last game) than in this game. Contributing to the Lady Bulldogs 17 points was #35 Mayson Burgener with 4, #40 Katie Hix with 6, #14 Kaitlyn McCarter with 3, and #52 Emily Gregory with 4.

Yet again, the Bulldogs bench suffered illness. Two starters for the Bulldogs were unable to participate in this game due to sickness. The game started out rough for the Bulldogs as the Eagles scored first and kept on scoring consistently throughout the first half of the game. RBS didn’t score until late in the first quarter and left for the locker room at the half with only 11 points on the board, while Westmoreland had 31. Westmoreland blew the game open with another 16-point output in the third quarter, as the Eagles built a comfortable 47-18 advantage heading into the final period. #25 Nick Deckard and #15 Alex Mullinix led the Bulldogs with 10 points each, with #11 Zane Roberts contributing 7 points, while #12 Brince Crouch and #34 Mason Hewitt adding 2 points each.

Closing this week, the Lady Bulldogs has a record of 3 wins and 10 losses. Unfortunately, this game marked the thirteenth loss for the Bulldogs, who are a relatively young team. Before heading into the holidays, the RBS Basketball program was very busy with tournament play. The Lady Bulldogs took part in the Classic Tournament at Pope John Paul II in Goodlettsville on December 20-22. While the girls were in this tournament, the boys traveled to Monticello, KY to participate in the All A’s Shootout Tournament on December 20 and 21. After these tournaments, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Scottsville, KY to play in the South Halton Classic December 27-29 while the Bulldogs play in the Nera White Tournament in Lafayette December 27-29.
