Matthew Dulworth, 18, Westmoreland and Chris Gregory, 18, Portland, TN were arrested by Lafayette Police officers early Monday morning at a residence on Days Road.
A third individual, a 15 year-old juvenile, was also arrested and charged with burglary and theft over $1,000 in connection with a 3 a.m. breaking and entering of the business office of B.D. Polston and Son builders' supply, located on the Old Red Boiling Springs Road east of Lafayette.
Taken from Polston's business office was the main computer which acted as a server for the other computers at the builders' supply company.
Officers Stacy Woodard and K-9 handler J.J. Ruiz responded to the burglar alarm call, and after picking up the scent of the alleged burglars, Officer Ruiz and Dutch Shepherd "Brassy" tracked the three youths down the Old RBS Road, across the now cleared off former mobile home park, crossing Lloyd Street between two residences and to the door of a residence on Days Road.
Lafayette Police recovered the freshly stolen computer, along with evidence from two other recent break-ins. Stereo speakers removed from two vehicles on Ferguson Hill Road, and a large amount of change stolen from vandalized vending machines located at the Corner Laundry on Church Street were allegedly found in the residence, where the 15 year-old juvenile resided on Days Road.
Builders' Supply owner Tony Polston had high praise for LPD K-9 handler J.J. Ruiz and K-9 officer "Brassy," and the quick response to the situation by Lafayette Police officers.
"They didn't know it, but the computer those boys took was the most important one we have," said Polston. "Even though we had all our business records 'backed-up," we would have experienced considerable downtime and cost associated with re-loading them onto another computer."
