The City of Lafayette is working hard on improving the water system in Macon County. They are in the process of putting up a new water tower on Hwy 141. There have been problems the water pressure on the West side on the county and this larger tower should solve the problem, according to Mayor Richard Driver.
The old water tower, currently at Westside Elementary has the capacity to hold 250,000 gallons of water and the new tower will have the capacity to hold one million gallons. If everything goes as planned, the new tower should be completed by the end of this year. This new tower will replace the current tower at Westside.
There is a second project in progress that should help customers in the northern part of the county, reworking water lines on Akersville Rd., which will also be completed by the end of the year. Also, the third project, that will benefit the eastern side of the county, is still in the engineering process. The city will be tying the two towers, one at Walmart and the one at the High School, together. Mayor Richard Driver states that he has high hopes for the positive impact these improvements will have on all residents of Macon County.
