On July 7- 13, 2012 members of the Macon County High School Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America chapter attended the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Flordia. Seven thousand five hundred attendees from all fifty states, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Waashington D.C. were present. Macon County was fortunate enough to take twenty one state finalists and three advisors on the trip. These students completed in STAR Events competitions that develop leadership skills and public speaking at the national level and received two gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal. Workshops and presentations given throughout the conference further empowered the students’ leadership skills and knoweledge of FCCLA.
In addition to these leadership opportunities, the group also took in some sights. Disneyworld, Universal Studios, Medival Times, and Sea World were all fun activities the students were able to enjoy. FCCLA would like to give thanks to all the businesses that made this trip possible: Macon Bank and Trust, Citizen’s Bank, North Central Telephone Cooperative, Tri- County Electric, and Farm Bureau. Macon County High SChool would also like to thank the Macon County Board of Education and Macon County Director of Schools, Margaret Oldham, for allowing us to attend our National Leadership Conference and allowing us to compete on the National Level.
