Marion D. Deering, age 81, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 7:45 a.m., at Smith County Healthcare Center in Carthage. Funeral services for Marion D. Deering were conducted on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home with Elder Charles Reece and Elder J. E. Shoulders officiating. Loryn Atwell, Ronald Swindle, Leon Fuqua, Ricky Cook, David Barber, Tim Barber, and Gregg Barton served as pallbearers. Interment followed in the Macon County Memorial Gardens.

Marion D. Deering was born on Wednesday, June 17, 1925, in Macon County, TN, born to the late Walter Joe and Laura White Deering. On February 21, 1948 he married the former Jonell Morris, who survives. Besides his parents, a brother, Jessie Deering and a sister, Annie Lou Brawner, preceded him in death. Mr. Deering was a member of New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1955. He was an Army veteran, who served his country in WWII. He worked for Tri-County Electric for forty years until he retired in 1991 and was also a weatherman for Lafayette for twenty-five years.

Besides his wife of fifty-eight years, he is also survived by; daughter, Deanna (David) Lampi, Madison, TN; granddaughter, Sherri (Charles) Reece; two great-grandchildren; brother, Sam Jackson (Gaynell) Deering, Hartsville, TN; sister, Estelle White, Lafayette, TN.

Mr. Deering was very blessed to have four very special caregivers during his illness, Mr. Stanley Cook, Mr. Leon Fuqua, Mrs. Elizabeth Cothron and Mrs. Bobbie Brawner.
