Making Macon Fit set to motivate county

The 16th annual Makin' Macon Fit will be held Saturday, Sept. 12 at Macon County Junior High School.

During the annual Makin' Macon Fit the usual events are held. These include the 5K race at 7:30 a.m.; 3-mile walk at 7:30 a.m.; 10-mile bike tour at 8:00 a.m.; 33-mile bike tour at 8 a.m.: 66 mile bike tour at 8 a.m. Kids' events/ include, a bouncy tent, obstacle course, and Junior bike rodeo (remember your bicycle helmet is required), and these events begin at 8:30 a.m. The Fun Run starts at 10:a.m..

Each year Makin' Macon Fit takes pride in arranging a series of events for physically and mentally challenged individuals. The events are a great way for all people, no matter what their abilities, so that they may be able to have a great time and get some healthful exercise. These events are to begin at 9:30 a.m.

The Macon County school with the most participants is awarded $500. Also this year, $300 will be awarded to the school with the second highest number of participants. In addition, the teacher with the most participants will be awarded $200. Other proceeds help fund the scholarship and support Lafayette Rotary and Interact Club community projects.

There will be door prizes, including at least 11 bicycles with helmets. T-shirts to all who pre-register, fruit, drinks, wellness information, and a bouncy booth, sumo wrestling, wall climbing and bungee run for the little kids.

Jackie Sircy, Director of Coordinated School Health will be bringing Happy the Hound and Nancy the Nutritious Apple so have your cameras ready. Power Panthner, famous at Westside School, will also be visiting.

Registration can be made on Saturday, September 12th. It is recommended you arrive 30 minutes prior to the event you are participating in.

One of the goals of Makin' Macon Fit is to promote wellness. Each year there are displays from local hospitals and wellness centers on topics such as eating healthy, diabetes, and heart disease.

The Lafayette Rotary Club, Macon County Health Council, Macon County General Hospital, and Lafayette Interact Club are the official hosts of Makin' Macon Fit.
