The Macon County Tigers Baseball Season is officially underway! The Tigers have new uniforms, new strategies, and a new coach. Coach Juan Clariday is taking the reins for the Tigers this year.

The Tigers played their first official game of the 2013 season against Trousdale County. Tyler Kemp came in late and pitched lights out for the Tigers, and he lead the Tigers to a 4-2 victory.

The starting pitcher for Macon County was Larken Whittemore. Neither team scored in the first two innings. But, in the third, Hartsville hit an RBI double. The Jackets also scored another run in the fourth. Whittemore came out in the fourth, and Tyler Kemp came in the game in the fifth and shut down Hartsville with his wicked knuckleball. In the top of the sixth, the Tigers’ bats lite up. Larken Whittemore and Tyler Kemp batted in an RBI each, while Ryan Craighead batted in two. Kemp continued pitching lights out, and the Tigers won the game 4-2.

In the second game, the Tigers played Livingston Academy. Dalton Shrum was the starting pitcher for the Tigers, and he just couldn’t get in a rhythm early, as Livingston scored early and beat the Tigers 7-4.

Livingston scored 4 runs in the first inning alone, while Macon County scored two in the top of the second, thanks to Austin Taft. Jacob McClard came in to pitch in the bottom of the fourth. Livingston also scored two runs in the fourth. In the top of the sixth, Macon County scored two runs, courtesy of Austin Craighead and Jacob McClard. Livingston would score one more in the bottom of the sixth, and the Tigers fell 7-4.

The Tigers’ final game of the week was a rematch against Livingston Academy. The Tigers would start Ian Whittemore at pitcher. The Tigers won the game in extra innings on a walk-off hit by Ryan Craighead.

Livingston Academy got ahead fast by scoring three runs in the top of the second inning. Macon County would score two in the bottom of the fourth, one of which was a solo homerun by Larken Whittemore. The game was tied at two after six innings, and the game went into extras. Livingston scored one run in the top of the seventh. However, Macon County came back and scored one in the bottom of the seventh. The game was tied at three after seven innings. In the bottom of the eighth, with two runners on, Ryan Craighead blasted a line drive into the outfield to score the game-winning run.

The Tigers’ next game will be against Red Boiling Springs at home.
