Under the direction of Shawn Mitterholzer and Jennifer Holmes, the MCHS Marching Band fine tuned their marching and playing abilities at a week long band camp this past week at the Macon County High School practice field.

Clouds shadowed the practice field for most of the week, giving the best conditions for campers to focus on their tasks.

Standing at the attention command while holding a five to thirty pound instrument can be a difficult task, especially on a hot sunny day.

“It's self discipline, and it's your desire of how good you want to be,” Shawn Mittenholzer tells the campers when he catches them trying to rush through the formation drills.

The 2007 MCHS Marching Band includes over 37 instrumentalist, 12 color guards, 6 dancers, and 2 field commanders.

There are eleven seniors and a large number of freshmen in this years band.

“Musically and marching, this year has the potential to be the best,” Mitterholzer declared.

During half-time at the football games, the MCHS Marching Band will perform four songs including: Land of make believe, Believe, I want to be like you, and Over the Rainbow.
