Macon County General Hospital held a reception on Wednesday, March 20 to announce the two 2012 Employees of the Year.

MCGH selects one individual in the nursing department and one outside of the nursing department each year for this honor. Nominations for employee of the year are submitted during a certain period, and must include specific justifications for the nomination. Then the names are removed from nominations and a special committee goes through and selects recipients based on description alone.

Wendy Steen was the recipient from the nursing department, and Bonnie Reagan was the recipient at large.

Wendy Steen

Excerpts from Wendy’s nomination: “When you work with her, you see her dedication to the nursing field. She is pleasant, respectable and inspires other co-workers. She goes the extra mile to make sure her patient gets the best care available…She is someone you see walking into the work and think, ‘Oh good! I’m working with Wendy today.’ One word to sum her up is consistent. She always has a positive attitude and is professional about everything she does…She makes every patient feel important and shows empathy no matter how minor their complaint.”

Bonnie Reagan

Excerpts from Bonnie’s nomination: “She is very much a patient advocate and will do her best to try to improve the patient’s circumstances. She takes time to involve families who are waiting with patients. She knows that waiting is more stressful when no one takes time to talk to you… her sweet gentle nature makes everyone feel special and top priority… She is not one to hibernate in her department until called—she finds ways to be of service to her co-workers. She demonstrates her loyalty to MCGH by not participating in work place gossip… She always looks for the sunny side of any negative report she hears.”
