Daniel Wayne McCormick, 30, of Lafayette, was the driver of the vehicle involved in Thursday night’s high-speed pursuit along Highway 52, an intake report from the Macon County Sheriff’s Office indicates.

McCormick was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of evading arrest and one count of reckless endangerment. Bond was set at $15,000.

Also taken into custody were Josie Lee McCormick, 29, and Kirton Ashley Walsh, 30, both of Lafayette.

Walsh was not charged and was released at 5:20 a.m. Friday morning.

The status of Josie Lee McCormick, listed on the intake sheet as being the wife of Daniel McCormick, is unclear at this time.

Daniel McCormick was booked at the Macon Sheriff Office at 1:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The pursuit began between 9:30 and 10 p.m. on Thursday night. A car occupied by three individuals sped East on Highway 52, traveling at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour, according to radio dispatches from pursuing officers.

Reports from the scene and radio dispatches between officers indicated the driver of the fleeing vehicle attempted to make vehicle-to-vehicle contact with pursuing officers.

The pursuit ended when the driver of the fleeing vehicle crashed into the Eastbound guard rail on Highway 52 near King Hill Road.

All Highway 52 traffic was diverted onto King Hill Road into the early-hours of Friday morning.

As of 12:25 a.m. Friday morning, law enforcement officials from Macon County, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Clay County were still on the scene and awaiting the arrival of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

More details in Thursday’s Macon County Times.
