The Lafayette City Council met in its regular monthly session Tuesday, March 5.

Items on the agenda included accepting bids on new tennis courts at the Lafayette City Park.

The Council accepted the bid from Custom Recreation out of Hendersonville to do a complete resurfacing of the courts. The cost of the bid is $9,975.

The Council also discussed the waterline on Liberty Road. It was approved by the council to allow a city line of 4 inches to be placed(approximately 6000 feet). This would allow all residents on Liberty Road to have access to city water.

Chief Dallas of the Lafayette Police Department spoke to the council concerning a dispatcher position. He stated that position had been open approximately a month and he had chosen someone to fill the position.

Tina Harper was approved by the Council to fill the position, on a one year probation time, at $7.90 per hour with a 10 shift premium starting February 25.

Keith Scruggs, Chief of the Lafayette Fire Department, requested a position of Assistant Fire Chief to be filled. The Council approved a motion to announce for a position of full time fireman so that a full time fireman could take the Assistant Chief position.

The Council passes a motion to advertise for bids to buy or trade a new copier. It would be used at the City Hall office.

The Council decided the City had done everything possible to help the water problem along Flippen Drive.

The Mayor discussed with the Council a vehicle auction that brought $19,540. A part of the money would go back to the utility department and the rest would go to the department that had sold the vehicles.

The Lafayette City Council will meet in the next regular monthly session April 2.
