The eighth annual Red Boiling Springs Lions Duck Race was held Saturday. A variety of booths were set up with games, food and live music entertained the crowd. At approximately two o’clock every one gathered around the water’s edge to watch the ducks be released into the water. The first duck to reach the finish line belonged to Kelcee Rhoten, age 10, who won the $100 prize. The lame duck of the day belonged to Tiger Kennedy, age 11, who won the $50 prize.
Red Boilings Springs Lions Club President, Dan Cohen, commented that this year’s duck race brought in more funds than previous years’ events. All proceeds of the duck race go to the RBS Lions Club for their contributions made to their community. Cohen wanted to express his apppreciation to all the sponsors/merchants of the RBS community for all their donations and volunteer work. Without their help the Lions Club could not do all the many services it provides to the locals.
The Lions Club is a non-profit organization that helps to purchase hearing aids and eye glasses for those who are unable to afford them. RBS Lions Club members also deliver food to the elderly, and they have planted trees in the downtown area.
