Mrs. Dorothy Kemp, age 91, of Pleasant Shade, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Smith County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

Services were conducted on Sunday afternoon by Elder Charles Jones from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Following the 1:00 p.m. services, burial was in Sanderson Cemetery in Pleasant Shade.

Mrs. Kemp married Curtis Draper Kemp on June 2, 1929. Her husband of 36 years died on February 18, 1966.

Born Dorothy Mai Hackett in Pleasant Shade on March 16, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Hugh West and Myrtle Arthenia Sanderson Hackett. Three brothers, Jack Hackett, former Smith County Sheriff Joe Hackett and an infant precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by two children, Jean Kemp Waters and Ronnie Glenn Kemp. She was a member of Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was employed at Carthage Shirt Corp. from 1955 until her retirement in 1991.

Survivors include nine children, Bill Kemp and wife Sue of Martinez, GA, Bob Kemp and wife Sara of Houston, TX, Sandra Bowman and husband Raymond of Graveltown Community, Gail Smith of Carthage, Paul Kemp and wife Paulette of Graveltown, Mary Proctor of Conroe, TX, Roy Kemp and wife Terri of Humble, TX, Mert Cook of Gainesboro, Donna Holder and husband Ronnie of Hartsville; three sisters, Nina Gregory of Pleasant Shade, Lois Sloan of Russell Hill, Blanche Haley of Carthage; 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
