The October term of the Macon County Criminal Court meets next week, beginning on Monday, October 6.

Red Boiling Springs Mayor Kenneth Hollis, indicted by a grand jury on charges of one count of official misconduct and one count of theft of property last year, is scheduled to appear for disposition of his case before Judge Jane Wheatcraft, sitting for Judge J.O. Bond, on October 6.

The case against Ricky Netherton, who allegedly killed two people in a Hillsdale community mobile home last year, is also scheduled for disposition on that day.

State prosecutors said they would not seek the death penalty in the Netherton case, but would request a sentence of life in prison without parole.

In other local court related news, Jack Pelham, who filed assault charges against John Cook on  September 10 after an incident in the Bill Martin's parking lot in Red Boiling Springs, won't be appearing in general sessions court during the month of October. Pelham, who has been quite vocal in his home-published newsletter about the continuance of the State vs. Mayor Kenneth Hollis case, has had his own case continued until November 26, 2008 so he will have time to hire an attorney.

On the other hand, John Cook - who filed assault charges against Pelham on the same day, stemming from the same parking lot incident - is scheduled to appear in court on October 27, 2008.
