The Macon County Legislative Body Meeting was held Monday, March 18. Commissioners voted to roll the costs for four separate projects together into one loan, to simplify paperwork and perhaps lower the interest rate.

The four projects to be funded were: 1. The new school lock system, 2. The installation of a second set of glass doors at each school, another safety measure, ($66,592.95 bid for both lock and door projects) 3. Weights equipment for MCHS, requested by head football coach Nathan Wilson, (about $25,000) 4. Two vehicles for the Macon County Sheriff Department, requested by Sheriff Gammons ($24,600 per car, or $49,200 for both).

The MCHS weights will not ultimately be paid for by the County; the loan for this project will be paid back by the football program. County Mayor Linville assured the Commissioners that even if the loans are all rolled into one note, these separate accounts can be kept.

Other items covered:

*Three new notaries public were elected: Kei Keene, Kathy Keene, and Brianna Austin.

*Minutes were approved for the following meetings: Joint Economic Community Development (2/12/13), Planning Commission Meeting (11/20/12), Legislative Body Meeting (2/25/13), and Committee of the Whole (3/4/13).

*Budget Amendments #1 and #2 for the Sheriff Department and #3 for Administration of the Sex Offender Program was approved unanimously in a single roll-call vote. Sheriff Gammons was present to comment on the changes, pointing out that any increased expenditure have been covered on the budget with increased revenue from commissary, phone cards, insurance recovery, and sundry other sources. A 2012-2013 budget amendment for the library system was approved with a unanimous vote.

The following items, which were presented for a first (not binding) vote/discussion during the Committee of the Whole meeting, were discussed/voted:

*A motion to reject a request from Oakdale Road residents to reduce the speed limit there to 35 mph passed. Wording was added to the motion to reflect that the County Commissioners, in deciding not to change the speed limit, were not making a statement on the safest travel speed for Oakdale Road.

*Sally Wells brought detailed financial statements from the Macon County Fair Board, at the request of the Commissioners from the Committee of the Whole meeting on March 4. Commissioners commended the Fair for improving and keeping up county land and for bringing overall value to the county. They asked for a similarly detailed financial statement on a yearly basis, just for the general information of the board. The statement was accepted as presented on a unanimous vote

County Mayor Shelvy Linville appealed to the Budget Committee, asking that they being assembling data in April this year for the coming budget submission to the state. A ‘status quo’ budget statement has been requested for this committee’s benefit, to be delivered within 2-3 weeks.
