Central Elementary School in Lafayette has a new Head Principal, as of August of 2012. Daniel J. Cook was raised in Macon County and graduated at Macon Co. High School in May 2001. Cook returned in August 2005 as a teacher at MCHS. He coached four seasons with the Tigers as MCHS Head Football Coach and went on to be Asst. Principal at MCHS in July of 2009, where he continued for three years.

Cook is married to Meranda Cook, principal of Defeated Creek Elementary School in Smith County, and has two daughters, Mia and Maci. They currently reside in the small community of Pleasant Shade.

Cook has high hopes and expectations for his role as Principal. “I have enjoyed my stay thus far at Central and have always enjoyed working in the Macon County school system,” said Cook. “I feel that we have a good school with a faculty and staff that makes the children the most important part of each day.

“My goal is to continue to provide the best opportunity for each child to get a great education. I feel that to do this we need a joint effort from the school, home, and community. I want each and every parent/guardian to feel welcome at Central and for all to know that each and every student in our building is our number-one priority.”
