Carman is a well known name in Macon and surrounding counties for real estate and auctions, but now it seems the name is becoming associated with football.

Gene Carman IV is a freshman this year at Friendship Christian School in Lebanon, TN. He joined their football team in July of 2012 and has had a great freshman season, culminating in his team winning the Div 1 Class 2A State Championship on Dec. 1st at Tennessee Tech in the Bluecross Bowl, defeating Adamsville High School 44-7.

His team went 12-1 for the season, with their only defeat coming to Gordonsville High School Class 1A State Champs early on. Carman (he goes by his last name) started on special teams all season and was a backup running back and linebacker for the first 7 games of the season.

Starting with the 8th game of the season against Watertown, Carman also began starting at tight end position in certain offensive formations. He was able to play several minutes at his new position, helping his team to their 2nd straight state championship. He had one touchdown this year against Watertown at the running back position and made several tackles and key blocks throughout the season.

Carman has grown up in Macon County and has played football here locally since 1st grade. He has had success with his teammates at every level. When he was a little Tiger, his team won pee wee division titles, and as a Cowboy, he and his team earned a visit to the Music City Bowl. His 6th grade team went 13-0 winning several area tournaments. He was blessed to be able to start both years of jr high school on both sides of the ball, and in his 8th grade year his team was able to compete in the Conference Championship game against Livingston. Carman was awarded the defensive MVP award for the game and won many awards at the football banquet that year.

Carman has been blessed by God with his success and would like to thank Him most of all! He is also thankful to his many coaches- to mention a few: Teddy Wix, Tim Lowhorn, Nathan Grace, David Phillips, Bryan Nichols, Randy Carnahan, Tony Boles, Chad Swindle, Nathan Wilson, Anthony Carter, Tim Greenhaulgh, Derrick Meador, Justin Wezet and his current Coach John McNeal, Duane Lowe, and the list could go on. All of you have been so instrumental in developing him as an athlete and a great young man. Carman is the son of Gene Carman III and Rachel Carman and brother of Taylor Carman and Cason Carman.
