Bulldogs face off Pickett County in homecoming

It was a tough week for the Red Boiling Springs basketball program as they took to the road this week to try to add some wins to their record. First, on January 22, they traveled to Watertown to face the Tigers. On January 24 they ventured to Smith County for a makeup game that was previously canceled due to potential inclement weather. They came home on January 25 to host the Bobcats of Pickett County where they celebrated their homecoming.

Scoring Summary in Girls action vs. Pickett County on January 25:

First quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 11 Pickett Co. Lady Bobcats 7

Second quarter-RBS Lady Bulldogs 21 Pickett Co. Lady Bobcats 14

Third quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 35 Pickett Co. Lady Bobcats 20

Fourth quarter- RBS Lady Bulldogs 49 Pickett Co. Lady Bobcats 39

The Lady Bulldogs were determined to show improvement from the last two games especially with them celebrating homecoming. The Lady Bulldogs took a slight lead in the beginning and controlled that lead to the end. Shooting 35.3% from the two point range, the Lady Bulldogs made 12 of 34 attempted shots. The Lady Bulldogs attempted 16 three point shots, hitting 5, for 31.2%. They were given 21 free shots at the foul line. The Lady Bulldogs made 10 of those free shots for 47.6%. Helping lead the Lady Bulldogs to a victory was:

#10 Kelsey Jenkins with 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals

#14 Kaitlyn McCarter with 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals

#25 Mckinzie Hix with 2 points and 2 rebounds

#40 Katie Hix with 2 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals

#45 Hannah Smith with 3 points

#50 Kalisha Lynch with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal

Having a great homecoming game was #35 Mayson Burgener. Burgener had a game total of 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Disappointingly, homecoming was not a success for the Bulldogs as they would have hoped it would have been. As in the past, the Bulldogs succumbed to their opponents’ early lead. By half the Bulldogs found themselves down by 17 points. However, like the past several games they have played, the Bulldogs showed much improvement during the second half. They were outscored by only 6 points in the third and fourth quarters. Shooting 26.7% from the two point range, the Bulldogs made 4 of 15 attempted shots. From the three point range, the Bulldogs accuracy was 28.6% with them making 6 of 21 attempted shots. They went to the foul line 12 times, making 8, for 66.7%. As a team, the Bulldogs had 37.5% total shooting accuracy for the game, compared to their opponents 57.1%. Individual Bulldogs stats:

#23 Ty Tuck had 1 point, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 deflection

#50 Dallas Greanead had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 deflections

#15 Alex Mullinix had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 deflection

#11 Zane Roberts had 6 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 2 deflections

#20 Skyler Holden had 3 points and 1 rebound

#12 Brince Crouch had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 deflections

#25 Nick Deckard had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 2 deflections

Closing out the week, the Lady Bulldogs have seen 6 wins and 19 losses this season. The Bulldogs have yet to see a win for the 2012-2013 seasons. The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs only have a few regular season games left before the district 8A tournament begins. On Tuesday night, January 29, the Bulldogs host the Commanders from Friendship Christian Academy. Then it’s on the road again as they travel to face the Middle Tennessee Heat on February 1. Game time for both is 6:00.
