RBS high school football and its coaching staff want to offer the opportunity for the youth of Red Boiling Springs to participate in its very own Youth Football Team. This program will be funded by the RBS High School Football program and the RBS Quarterback Club. This will be the 2nd year for this team and we look forward to building on the experience we obtained last year. We hope to have all the players that participated last year back again for 2014. With those experienced players and with the addition of new players, we expect to be very competitive. The RBS high school coaching staff and players will also be involved at times to help the development of the youth players and to improve their experience. This team will consist of mainly 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Practices will be held here in Red Boiling Springs at times convenient for the majority. The offense and defense, that the RBS Youth Football Team will run, will be directly aligned with the offense and defense that the high school runs to prepare them for the future. Games will be played every Saturday with at least half of those being Home Games, on the RBS High School Football Field. We will be competing with other youth teams from Westmoreland just as was done in 2013. This will continue to help our players to develop good relationships and camaraderie with their own Red Boiling Springs teammates and allow them to get accustomed to playing together and playing the type of competition that they will face later in Jr. High and in High School. The official schedule will be released at a later date.

In fairness, we ask that all parents understand how RBS Youth Football approaches youth football. Players come into the program with many levels of skill and readiness. In keeping with this reality, we attempt to coach all players to attain higher skills and knowledge than when they began. Parents may have opinions of their child’s readiness but coaches must evaluate and place the kids in the positions needed for player success as well as the success of the team. Parents are encouraged to ask how they can help their player outside of practice. However, parents are requested to bring issues to a coach, not other parents and players on the sidelines. Please understand coaches are volunteers but they are the coaches and have final say while a player is on the team.

With that said, RBS Youth Football coaches set player participation goals according to the capabilities of the player to attain a good balance of participation. Getting all team members into games are a high priority but is subject to the overall goals of the team. Starters are chosen according to the needs of the team and players may not end up in the spot they might have tried out for at the beginning of the season. We believe discipline and team unity are born out of doing your best and helping the team before serving personal goals. We believe this is reflected in the RBS high school program. RBS Youth Football wants to earn a reputation in the surrounding area for generating teams and players who stand out head and shoulders above the rest. Winning is the outward product of the personal traits we encourage and develop in the players before they take the field.

Any 6th grader that is playing on the RBS Jr. High football team will be allowed and encouraged to participate with both teams, but at any conflicting times, Jr. High football becomes priority over the youth league. We look forward to coaching your children and watching them become part of the RBS Football tradition for many years to come.
