After enjoying a week of Spring Break, the Red Boiling Springs Softball Team played two games last week. They lost the first 0-14 against Gordonsville on April 10th and won the second 17-7 against Monterey on April 11th. The April 7th game against Westmoreland was rained out and has been rescheduled for April 23rd. The April 8th game against Clay County also was rained out. It will not be re-scheduled.
The girls have been loosing on fielding errors according to their coach, Stacey Mims. But, Mims says they getting better as they gain experience and learn to play as a team. In the game against Gordonsville on April 10, 2014, #10 Hannah Smith got to base on a walk, but was left on the field. There were no other hits and the score at the end of the game was 0-14.
The team faired better against Monterey on April 11, 2014. They won 17-7. #3 Mackenzie Sadler was the winning pitcher. She also had a single, a triple, an RBI and scored three runs. Good day for Mackenzie! #19 Kristen Stacey also scored three runs. She walked twice, got hit by a pitch (twice), walked twice more and was brought home by her team mates. #23 Olivia Atkins scored on a two singles, a walk and was credited with an RBI. She also was hit by a pitch as were another three team mates, two of them, like Stacey, were hit twice. #9 Sydney West scored on a walk. The remaining runs were scored on walks and good base-running. #10 Hannah Smith, #21 Jenna Dziekiewicz and #20 Shanna Jones received RBI’s. Coach Mims says, “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but I expect a few more wins before the season ends.”
The team will play a home game against Jackson County on Monday, April 14th, an away game against Watertown on April 15th and another home game on April 17th against Trousdale County. Good luck this week Lady Dawgs.
The Tigerettes played in the Third Annual Macon County Tournament on April 5th. With one run on four hits, they won the first game of the tournament 1-0 against Wayne County. Paige Clark was the winning pitcher. They won Game 2 against Friendship Christian 9-0. Macon County scored three runs in the first inning, five in the second, and one in the third. #1 Connor Roddy was the winning pitcher, keeping Friendship Christian to three hits and allowing no runs. They played Cannon County in Game 3 of the tournament, winning 1-0. They lost Game 4 by one point to Friendship Christian 3-4.
On April 8, 2014, the Tigerettes beat the heck out of Livingston Academy. Paige Clark was the winning pitcher in the 8-1 game. She allowed four hits and one run. Macon County had two runs in the third inning, three in the sixth and three in the seventh. #9 Jordan Shockley hit a home run.
