This past week saw the Macon County Tigers in District Action with the Smith County Owls.
Game 1: The Tigers traveled to Carthage on Monday, March 24th, but failed to come away with a win. The game went scoreless for two innings of play. Smith County hit a homerun over right field and added another run to their score in the third. A couple errors on Tiger’s defense allowed the Owls to add another run in the fourth. Macon County couldn’t seem to bring life to their bats only getting one hit during the game. Final score 0 – 3 Smith County. Johnny Brown was on the mound for the Tigers for 9 strikeouts, gave up 6 hits and 2 walks.
Macon County hosted Smith County hoping for redemption from the night before. The Tigers would come out fighting in the bottom of the first with a double by Craighead, Gregory gets hit by pitch, Carnahan and Ashburn each get a single, but Tigers could only add 1 run to their score. In the second, Woodard gets a single and scores from a hit by Boone. Score 2 – 0 Macon Co. In the third inning, errors would once again plague the Tiger’s defense allowing Smith Co to add 3 runs, but Macon would respond adding 2 runs to their score.
The Owls would add 2 runs in the top of the fourth. With score 5 -7 Smith Co, Justin Woodward would take the mound for the Tigers. Macon would rally to tie the score 7 – 7 in the fifth inning. The game would go into extra innings of play. In top of 9th, four errors made by Tiger’s defense and a controversial call at home plate allowed the Owls to add 5 runs.
Tough district loss for the Tigers with a final score 7 – 12. Craighead gets the loss with 9 strikeouts, 6 hits, and 2 walks. Woodard adds 8 strikeouts, 6 hits, 5 walks. Williams and Ashburn each go 2 for 4 with an RBI. Macon County will continue District Action hosting Central Magnet from Murfreesboro March 31, 2014.
