Red Boiling Springs Softball Starts Strong in 2014
In the first week of the 2014 Softball season, the Red Boiling Springs High School Softball Team beat their record for 2013. They won their first two games, played on March 10th and March 11th against Clarkrange and Monterey. The following week, they lost by one point to Trousdale and lost both games of a double header with Community High School. Head Coach Stacy Mims is confident. “We’ve already beat last year’s record for the season,” she said. “We are ready to play.”
On March 10, 2014, the Lady Bulldogs took on Clarkrange. They beat them 16-2. Coach Mims said, “We did a great job hitting the ball.” And that they did, leaving only five players on the bases and making only two errors in the game. Mackenzie Sadler scored three runs. She was struck out, walked to first, had two singles, an RBI and stole six bases. With one single, three walks, two RBI’s and two stolen bases, Caylie Gann also scored three runs, as did Sydney West with one single, one double, three RBI’s, one walk and two stolen bases. Hannah Smith walked, singled to first, made a sacrifice bunt and an RBI, stole two bases and scored two runs. Whitney Ellingson was struck out twice, made it to first on a single and was batted in to score a run. Kristen Stacey was struck out once, walked to first, hit a double and two RBIs and scored one run. Olivia Atkins walked to first and was batted in for a run. Jenna Dziekiewicz hit three singles and an RBI and scored one run. Shaylee Ellingson hit a single, an RBI, a sacrifice bunt and scored a run.
On March 11th, the Lady Bulldogs beat Monterey 12-0. They made two errors and left five players on the field. Coach Mims said, “They did a great job hitting the ball again.” Kristen Stacey had three RBI’s and three runs on a double, a walk and two stolen bases. She scored three runs. Cayley Gann scored two runs. She hit two RBIs, walked to first and stole two bases. Olivia Atkins also scored two runs. She hit two singles, an RBI, got hit by the pitcher, walked to first and stole a base. Hannah Smith singled, walked, hit an RBI, stole two bases and scored two runs. Jenna Dziekiewicz hit two singles, two RBIs, stole a base and scored one run. Mackenzie Sadler scored a run on a single and added an RBI to her record. Shaylee Ellingson hit a single and scored a run. Sydney West doubled, got on second and had an RBI. Whitney Ellingson singled and hit an RBI. Hannah Smith pitched the no-hitter.
On March 20th, the Lady Bulldogs lost by one point to Trousdale County. After playing hard and well, the girls lost 3-4. Coach Mims said, “Overall, it was a great game. I was very proud of the girls. A couple of errors hurt us as well as a horrible call at home plate that ended the game.” The Lady Bulldogs left six on the field and made four errors. Mackenzie Sadler, Kristen Stacey and Jenna Dziekiewicz scored the runs. Sadler struck out, made a sacrifice bunt and an RBI. Two of the team’s four errors were hers. Stacey doubled, made and RBI, one error and walked. Dziekiewicz was walked twice. Whitney Ellingson walked and got hit with a pitch. Olivia Atkins singled. Sydney West walked. Hannah Smith hit a single and walked. Shaylee Ellingson hit a double, made a sacrifice bunt, stole a base and made one error. Shanna Jones singled.
On March 22nd, the Lady Bulldogs played a double header against Community High School. They lost the first game 0-10 to some fielding mishaps and lost the second game 4-5. Hannah Smith took the loss for the first game. She pitched a good game but Community High got the best of her. In the first game, Whitney Ellingson struck out and hit two singles. Mackenzie Sadler hit a single and stole second. Kristen Stacey, Sydney West, Hannah Smith and Shaylee Ellingson walked to first. Overall, the Lady Bulldogs left six players on the field and made 4 errors in the game.
In the second game, Mackenzie Sadler hit two singles and scored two runs. Kristen Stacey got an RBI, a single and a stolen base. Olivia Atkins got an RBI. Shaylee Ellingson hit two singles, stole two bases and scored two runs. Shanna Jones hit a single. The team left nine players in the field and made two errors. Mackenzie Sadler took the loss. Coach Mims said, “We played much better in the second game but left too many people on base.”
