Red Boiling Springs Jr. High hosted the Highland Rim Tournament January 9 - 13, 2014. Macon County Jr. High won both the boys’ and girl’s tournaments. The Bulldogs came in third. The Lady Dawgs came in 4th. Both teams won their first game in the tournament. The boys played Trousdale County and won 30-24. The girls played Westmoreland, 24-19. Jordan Powell #34 and Lee Pruitte #14 were named All Tournament for the boys. Tamara Murphy #10 was All Tournament for the girls.


1/09 Red Boiling Springs JH v Trousdale Boys 30-24


On January 9th, the Bulldogs won their first game of the Highland Rim Tournament. They beat Trousdale County 30-24. They took the lead in the second quarter and kept it through the fourth, putting 8 points on the board in the first quarter, 8 in the second, 4 in the third and 10 in the fourth. It was a great game, hard-won and hard-fought. Overall, the boys made 8 of 26 two-point shots, 1 of 6 three-point shots, 11 of 16 free-throws, 8 offensive and 19 defensive rebounds, 3 assists, 17 turnovers and 6 fouls. #34 Jordan Powell made 15 points. #14 Lee Pruitte made 6. #10 Matt Murphy made 3 points. #12 Kaleb Stacey, #15 Hunter Kirk and #55 Jamie Ruiz each made 2. Bulldogs won 30-24.


1/11 Red Boiling Springs JH v Macon County Jr. High Boys 19-39


On January 11th, the Bulldogs lost the second game of the tournament to Macon County Jr. High 19-39. The Tigers held them to 4 points in the first quarter, 3 in the second, 10 in the third and 2 in the fourth. #34 Jordan Powell made 10 points in the game. #55 Jamie Ruiz, #15 Hunter Kirk, #14 Lee Pruitte and #12 Kaleb Stacey each made 2. #21 Jerad Hatcher made 1. They made 8 of 24 two-point shots, 3 of 4 free-throws, no three-pointers, 6 offensive and 13 defensive rebounds, 3 assists, 7 steals, 16 turnovers and 7 fouls. The loss to Macon County Jr. High put them in the position of fighting for Third or Fourth place in the tournament.


1/13 Red Boiling Springs JH v Celina Boys 41-31


The Bulldogs played Celina in the third and final game of the tournament on January 13th. They won the game 41-31 and Third Place in the tournament. They kept a strong lead throughout the game, playing like the rent was due. They put 12 points on the board in the first quarter, 13 in the second, 3 in the third and 13 in the fourth. #34 Jordan Powell was the top scorer with 19 points. #14 Lee Pruitte and #15 Hunter Kirk each made 9. #12 Kaleb Stacey made 4. Overall, they made 15 of 40 two-pointers, 1 of 5 three-pointers (Pruitte), 8 of 22 free-throws, 8 offensive and 17 defensive rebounds, 4 assists, 9 steals, 7 turnovers and 17 fouls. It was a great game.


1/09 Red Boiling Springs JH v Westmoreland Girls 24-19


In their first tournament game, on January 9th, the Lady Dawgs beat Westmoreland in overtime 24-19. It was a great game. The Lady Dawgs played as well as I’ve seen them play all season. They were on their game offensively and defensively. They put 5 points on the board in the first quarter, 4 in the second, 4 in the third, 6 in the fourth and 5 in over-time. Westmoreland put 5 on the board in the first quarter, 4 in the second, 3 in the third, 8 in the fourth and made no points in over-time. The Lady Dawgs were determined to win and they did. They made 7 of 33 two-point baskets, 1 of 8 three-point baskets, 7 of 14 free-throws, 6 offensive and 22 defensive rebounds, 1 assist, 8 steals, 11 turnovers and 112 fouls. #10 Tamra Murphy was the high scorer for the team. She made 10 points in the game. #33 Macy Raines made 7. #35 Grayce Crouch made 4. #45 Sydney Henson made 2. #34 Bailey Tucker made 1.


1/11 Red Boiling Springs JH v Macon County Jr. High Girls 10-41


The Lady Dawgs lost their second tournament game 10-41 to Macon County on January 11th. They were overmatched and they knew it. The Tigerettes held them to 1 point in the first quarter, 1 in the second, 3 in the third and 5 in the fourth. #25 Hailey Berry was the top scorer with 3. #33 Macy Raines and #45 Sydney Henson each made 2. #10 Tamra Murphy, #14 Amber McCarter, and #35 Grayce Crouch made 1. Overall, they made 2 of 25 two-point baskets, no 3’s, 6 of 12 free-throws, 4 offensive and 13 defensive rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 14 turnovers and 11 fouls.


1/13 Red Boiling Springs JH v Jackson County Girls 11-29


On January 13th, the Lady Dawgs lost their third and final game of the tournament 11-29 to top-rated Jackson County. They put 3 points on the board in the first quarter, 8 in the second and none in the third and fourth quarters. #12 Kaylena Hatcher, #35 Grayce Crouch and #45 Sydney Henson each made 3 points in the game. #10 Tamra Murphy added the final 2. As a team, they made 1 of 25 two-point baskets, 2 of 10 three-point baskets, 3 of 9 free-throws, 9 offensive and 14 defensive rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals, 12 turnovers and 12 fouls. The loss gave them 4th Place in the tournament.
