Frances Darnell was honored at a luncheon on November 21st for her long time service to libraries. Guests included Secretary of State Tre Hargett, State Librarian Church Sherrill, Judge John Wootten, County Mayor Shelvy Linville, past and present library dignitaries, and friends and family.

During the event the Macon County Library Board of Trustees presented Mrs. Darnell with a sculpture by local artist Linda Johnson. The sculpture, intitled “The Agesless Word”, was in recognition of Mrs. Darnell’s commitment to strong libraries both in Macon County and across the state. The art work will be housed permanently in the new Macon County Public Library addition.

Mrs. Darnell has served as a library trustee for 20 years. She has also dedicated much of her time and effort to helping communities state-wide build strong libraries through the Tennessee State Friends of the Library organization. The plaque accompanying the sculpture will read ” ….in recognition of her long time commitment to libraries as patron, trustee, and advocate”. The Macon County Board of Trustees was proud to pay tribute to her on-going dedication.
