The Macon County Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Central Office with Chairman Steve Walton presiding. With all members present, the following business was transacted.

The board agenda was approved as presented with the exception of items E F and G from VI, and the consent agenda was also approved. Minutes from previous meetings were approved.

Leave requests for Holly Wix, Kim Phillips, Karen Burrow, Barry Hawkins, and Robbie Bristol were approved.

The board voted by a narrow majority to approve seven position creations: A MCHS Data/Testing Coordinator position, MCHS Family and Consumer Science/Personal Finance position, MCHS Agriculture/Personal Finance position, MCJH Instructional Facilitator position, RBS Elementary Instructional Leader position, Central Elementary RTI Teacher position, and Fairlane Elementary RTI Teacher position. In each of the seven votes taken, Walton and Cook voted no, and Tuttle, Harper, and Wilmore voted yes.

The board approved to approve to revise the following policies: 5.303 Personal and Professional Leave; 6.200 Attendance; 6.202 Home Schools; 6.203 School Admissions; 6.2031 Graduate Re-Entry; 6.204 Attendance of Non-Resident Students; 6.2041 Non-Resident Student Extracurricular Activities; 6.205 Student Assignment; 6.209 Child Custody/Parental Access.

The board voted to accept a Voyager Fleet Card for use in purchasing low bid on fuel for the 14-15 school year.

The board approved Dr. Stanley Chun’s low bid for bus driver physicals for the 14-15 school year. They approved a low bid for drug and alcohol screenings from ASMS.

High bids from Larry Sanders were accepted for the sale of six surplus buses. Busses were sold for a total amount of $11,936.06.

They approved a low bid from Koorsen Fire and Security for fire and safety equipment, Therapy Services for occupational services, from Comprehensive Rehabilitation for physical therapy services, Artis Networks for technology equipment and technology contract, IWC for food and non-food items, Borden for milk/juice/dairy items, Flowers Baking co. for bread, IWC for produce, Coca Cola for beverages, Purity for ice cream, Mercury, Chemsearch and Telstar Industries for line item bids on chemicals, Plateau for pest control. All these items are for the 14-15 school year.

After some discussion, the board voted to proceed with the dismissal of tenured teacher Teresa Kidd. Wilmore, Cook, Harper and Tuttle voted yes; Walton voted no.

The board approved to advertise for bids for the purchase of a lawn mower.

The board approved to issue a letter of intent to the State of Tennessee Surplus Warehouse to purchase two used charter buses for trips only. The buses are to be inspected and approved for purchase by the Supervisor of Transportation.

The following teachers were approved for advancement to professional license: Christa Michelle Lynch, Kimberly Nicole Fitzgerald, Stacy Ann Hix, Tonya Michelle Kemp, Sandra M. Smith, Graham Terry Richardson, Brittny Dawn Bowers Dodson, Adam Brent Shaw, Tara Lynn Shoulders Haehl, Heather Evelyn Towns, Alyssa Denise Steen, Cristina Yokley, James Eli Stephenson.

The General Purpose budget for 14-15 failed by roll call.

The School Nutrition Budget for the 14-15 school year carried by roll call.

A Mid-Tenn Office Equipment lease renewal was approved.
