A Macon County Jail inmate is accused of assaulting a correctional officer.
According to the police affidavit, the incident occured on Tuesday, August 5. Macon County Corrections Officer Billy Barnsfield was responding to a complaint about an unruly inmate when inmate Jason Tirjan allegedly assaulted him.
Tirjan allegedly grabbed the officer in a choke hold and would not release him. Other correctional officers had to intervene to get Tirjan to release Barnsfield.
Jason D. Tirjan, 21, of 3230 Cedar Bluff Rd, Lafayette, has been charged with aggravated assault. His court date is set for 9/10 with a $20,000 bond.
