Crowds filled the bleachers at the Tractor Pull on Friday night. It was one of the best-attended events of the Fair. More than just a night out with friends and family, this crowd knew what they were watching. They rooted for the drivers or the machines, or yelled advice: “Don’t do it in idle, son, put it in gear.” And, “let it out, let it out, let out.” There were nine categories of competition and each one had it’s own set of fans. First, Second and Third place in each class won $100, $50 or $25 respectively. With an entry fee of only $20, the competition was just about an even draw.
Announcer Steve Speck all but lost his voice in the nearly four-hour event. A case of bottled water and lively discussions with friends who dropped in and out of the booth all night while he announced the winners and distances pulled in each weight class kept him going to the end. Esten Stinson won the first class, 5,500 lb Farm Stock Tractor, with a 217.7 pull. Dustin Grissom with 212.89 was second and Ben Centers was third with 212.6. In Class 2, 8,500 lb Farm Stock Tractor, Scott Gammons came in first with 252.7. Dustin Grissom came in second with 235.1. Jerry White came in third with 221.1.
