What does the spiritual growth of our youth look like at Lafayette United Methodist Church? That question was answered on Sunday, August 17th during the Annual Youth Sunday! The pattern for our young people's spiritual growth begins with devoted Youth Leaders such as Lena Darnell and Betty Pruitt. Under their guidance and direction, the Youth Ministry of Lafayette United Methodist Church planned every aspect of the service and led the congregation in worship. Charlie Hooper shared the opening announcements, led us in the Apostles' Creed and ended the service with the benediction.
We were guided in congregational singing by the entire Youth Group. Lora Darnell and Tessa Pruitt beautifully played the prelude of “Standing in the Need of Prayer” on the organ and piano. Levi Bolton led the prayer and Kenny Bailey and Hunter Bolton received the morning offering. During the offering Nikki Collins sang the beloved hymn “Will the Circle be Unbroken.” Kalyee Collins shared the scripture lesson and Erin Smoczynski brought the children's message. The congregation was blessed by a young women's quartet. Another of the many highlights of the service was Youth president Tessa Pruitt addressing the congregation with a message entitled “Steps” based on the scriptures of Jeremiah 29:11 and Psalm 119:105. Tessa is a Certified Youth Lay Speaker of the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church and will be attending Martin Methodist College in the fall and is considering a career in business. Lafayette United Methodist Church members are overjoyed with these enthusiastic young people and of the impressive job they did in leading our worship service.
