Flooding rain and Spring Break did nothing to prevent the Bulldogs from playing ball last week. They played Clarkrange on April 4th and a double header against Mt. Juliet Christian on April 5th. In the past two weeks, the team has stepped up their hitting, fielding and their teamwork. One can see this demonstrated in each player’s and the team’s overall stats but also in the player’s faces. The Bulldogs are pumped.


On April 4th, the Bulldogs lost 8-10 to Clarkrange. Overall, they had a good day at the plate and in the field, leaving only a few players on the bases and making only one error. They got eight runs on thirteen hits: five in the third and three in the seventh. #3 Spencer Tuck started the five-run rally in the third inning with a double to center field. Tuck advanced to third base on a single by #5 Skylar Holden. Holden advanced to second and Tuck scored on a ground ball to third base by #23 Bailey Chapman.


Holden scored on a line drive double to left field by #22 Brince Crouch. Crouch moved to third on a single by #10 Nick Deckard. Deckard stole second and third while Crouch stole home on a strike, a ball and a sacrifice ground ball by #17 Mayson Hewitt. #20 Dustin Bergdorff walked to first and advanced to second on a single to right field by #15 Alex Mullinex, then stole third. Mullinex advanced to second and Dustin Bergdorff scored the fifth of a five-run rally on a single to center field by his brother #1 Justin Bergdorff.


The Bulldogs scored another three runs at the top of the seventh inning. #22 Brince Crouch started it off with a single to right field. Crouch stole second on a foul ball and scored on an RBI double to right field by #10 Nick Deckard. Deckard stole third, then scored on an RBI double to right field by #17 Mayson Hewitt. Hewitt advanced to third on a pitch to #20 Dustin Bergdorff, who grounded out to second base, then scored on a single to right field by #15 Alex Mullinex. Mullinex was left on base to end the rally and the game.

On April 5th, the Bulldogs played a double-header against Mt. Juliet Christian. They lost the first game 4-6 and the second 2-3. In the first game, Mt. Juliet Christian was ahead by six runs until the fourth inning. The Dawgs rallied in the fourth with three runs. #23 Bailey Chapman started it off with a walk to first. #22 Brince Crouch followed Chapman with a single to short stop, advancing Chapman to second base. Crouch advanced to second and Chapman advanced to third on a single to short stop by #10 Nick Deckard.
Chapman scored on a single to right field by #17 Mayson Hewitt, leaving Crouch at third and Deckard at second. Crouch stole home and Deckard stole third on the last play. #15 Alex Mullinix hit into a double play. Deckard stole home on a strike to #1 Justin Bergdorff for the final run of the day. #7 Cole Dziekiewicz pitched a great game. He gave up two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two in three innings.
The Bulldogs lost the second game 2-3 in four innings. Mt. Juliet Christian took a two-point lead in the first inning. The Dawgs tied in the second, but lost to a third run for Mt. Juliet in the fourth. #20 Dustin Bergdorff began the second inning for the Bulldogs with a walk to first base. He took second on a passed ball and advanced to third on #5 Skylar Holden’s ground out to first. Bergdorff scored on a single to center field by #15 Alex Mullinex. Mullinex advanced to third on a double to right field by #14 Chance Asberry, then scored on the last play. #17 Mayson Hewitt popped out to right field to end the inning and the game.
