A three-vehicle accident sent a Lafayette man to the hospital via helicopter on Sunday night. The crash, which occurred at about 10 p.m., involved a Ford F-150, a Ford Ranger, and a Dodge pickup.

The F-150 was driven by Justin Wix, age 42, of Lafayette. Wix was traveling south on Akersvile Road. Traveling north were 25-year-old Christopher Hancock of Lafayette, driving the Ranger, and 19-year-old Jerry Page of Celina, driving the Dodge.

According to Trooper Donoho, Wix came over a small rise just as Hancock was making a left-hand turn into an apartment parking lot near Twin Lanes. Hancock was driving in front of Page, and his vehicle never made impact with either of the others. He safely turned into the intended parking lot.

But in the meantime, Wix lost control of his vehicle and traveled over the center line, striking Page’s Dodge. Page came to stop near the point of impact, and Wix’s vehicle continued on, coming to a rest in a nearby driveway.

Page was not injured, but Wix had a serious leg injury and was extricated from his truck. He was then airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was in stable condition at press time. The other two drivers did not sustain injuries.

“I have to get it straight, because it’s kind of a unique little wreck here,” said Donoho. He mentioned that an investigation is ongoing.
