The Macon County Chamber of Commerce hosted a well-attended Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, May 8. During this event, teachers enjoyed a free lunch catered by Linda’s Cakes & Catering, lots of door prizes and goodie baskets, and personal thanks from several local dignitaries.
This year’s teacher retirees were also honored during the luncheon, and the Chamber announced the 2014 Teacher of the Year. The Teacher of the Year was Coach Howard Cochran, county wide instructional leader. Cochran was also among those retiring. As he has a bus route, Cochran was late getting to the luncheon, and walked in a side door only to be hailed by the emcee and called up to accept his honors.
Incoming Director of Schools Tony Boles was also recognized, and said a few words to the group about his intentions during his tenure.
