This weekend, the Lafayette Fire Department is bringing us the 10th Annual Terry Jackhammer Driver Scholarship Fund Truck & Tractor Pull. It’s a long name, for an event that is over before any of us are ready for it to go.
Once again, the supercharged excitement will be both Friday and Saturday night (May 9-10), at 7 p.m., at the Macon County Fairgrounds. Admission is $10 for adults 11 and up, $5 for ages 5-10, and free for those under age 5.
“We welcome everybody to come out,” said Lafayette Fire Chief Keith Scruggs. “We’re doing a two-night pull this year, and it’s important for us to keep Jackhammer’s name alive. He was a very community spirited person. And all the proceeds, of course, go directly to a scholarship fund.
“This year we’ll give $3,500 in scholarships; from year to year we just decide how much we can give. We’re one of the biggest scholarships in the community and we try to spread it around. We try to target it to emergency workers’ children.
“So we’d like to get a good crowd this year, both nights.”
Friday night, you’ll see the following categories: 6000 Limited Light, Super Tractors, 8500 Pro-Farm Tractors, 6000 Super Stock Tractors, and 9300 Super Farm Tractors. Saturday day night, you’ll see Pro-Stock 4WD Trucks, Pro-Stock 2 WD Trucks, 2.6 Diesel Trucks, 6000 Limited Light Super Tractors, 6000 Super Stock Tractors, and 9300 Super Farm Tractors.
