Dennis A. Wolford, CEO, Macon County General Hospital announced that the hospital received a generous contribution from the Catherine L. Adams estate. Wolford commented “This donation is deeply appreciated and will be used towards the purchase of needed equipment.”
Linda Austin commented: Mrs. Adams was a very gracious lady who was always mindful of serving her community. She visited Knollwood Manor with her Ladies Group at Lafayette First Baptist Church, and was later a resident of Knollwood Manor. She remained a gracious lady until the end, and I am very pleased to know that she and her husband were so interested in the future and prosperity of Macon County General Hospital.
Dr. Chunn commented:
“I had the pleasure of taking care of Mr. and Mrs. Adams for several years. Mr. Adams was an engineer by profession and one of the most organized patients I ever had. He always came in with a numbered list of all the questions he had regarding his health and could always dutifully write down the answers after any follow up questions he might have. One day he came in with his list but he had another question not health related. He had seen a plaque on the ER wall that had listed donors to the recent refurbishment of our ER facility and he and seen my name on it.
“He asked a few questions and then asked if the hospital could use some money. I just smiled at him and said a small hospital like ours can ALWAYS use donations. I found out later he had given a nice donation. But he didn’t end it there. Months later he asked me if I ever thought we’d build a new hospital and I told him at some point. I hope we will but the cost was prohibitive and we’d have to have help from donors which we have few of and some kind of government grant. He thought about it a minute and said ‘I’m going to talk to Catherine (his wife) about it and see if we can’t do something to help.’ I continue to take care of both of them for many years afterward but donations to the hospital weren’t discussed.
“With Mrs. Adams passing recently I found out that Mr. Adams had indeed done ‘something to help’ with a large donation to the hospital. Most people don’t realize how much a good donation like that can do for a local hospital. But Mr. and Mrs. Adams did and it will be well utilized.”
