Beloved local bus drive H.B. Bray passed away on Thursday of last week, at the age of 83. Bray had driven a bus in Red Boiling Springs for Macon County schools for 48 years, estimates Transportation Supervisor Larry Holland.
“He was an exceptional driver,” said Holland. “He drove a regular school bus and also the Bulldog Bus. They changed the law years ago so he could still drive even though he was 83. Used to be you had to retire at 70, but they changed the law so if you passed the physical, you were fine. He was great person, had a great work ethic. And he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
“He went to work last week. He drove the bus Wednesday afternoon. Thursday morning his wife called and said he was sick, and the next call I got was from 911, and they said they were doing CPR.”
Holland has known him personally, he said, for 30 years.
