A routine traffic stop in Lafayette led to the arrest of eight men and women on drug charges last Wednesday.

Jeff Hix of the Lafayette Police Department stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Hwy 10 and Hwy 52 at about noon. The male driver of the vehicle and female passenger both showed signs of narcotics use. Through interviews, Hix also received some indication that there was methamphetamine manufacturing supplies in the vehicle. He called in the Sheriff Department and K-9 unit Gordy, who gave a positive indication for meth on the vehicle.

The vehicle was searched, and all the components to produce meth were found, as well as some quantity of finished meth product. The interview also led investigators to an address off of Hwy 10—2248 Hartsville Road—where more two meth labs were found and others were arrested. Again, interviews led investigators to an address in the mobile home park Hillsdale Estates, also on Hwy 10. A leafy green substance believed to be marijuana was found here, and other arrests were made.

Eight male and female individuals were arrested in total, on charges ranging from driving under the influence to manufacture of methamphetamine. At least a dozen officers were involved in the case on Wednesday, from the Lafayette Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Macon County Sheriff’s Office, and Tennessee Meth Lab Cleanup.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to Chief Deputy Bryan Satterfield. Sheriff Mark Gammons commended all “officers, deputies, and correction officers, for a job well done.”
