Man arrested after being released from hospital

A local man was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, prohibited weapon, aggravated domestic assault and two counts of reckless endangerment this week. The charges are related to an incident that occurred weeks prior at 1874 Rocky Mound Road.
On September 2, according to the police affidavit, Charley C. Chronister physically attacked his wife by throwing her on the couch, grabbing her by the neck and holding a firearm to her head. The affidavit states that he then discharged a sawed off .22 caliber rifle inside the home. A sawed off shotgun is an illegal weapon. The projectile from the firearm allegedly hit the couch sitting in the living room. Both Mr. Chronister’s wife and her infant were allegedly in the home, less than 15 feet away when the firearm was discharged.
“Chronister then went outside the home and shot himself in the cheekbone area,” stated Detective Ron Smith of the Macon County Sheriff’s Department. This incident took place in the yard, in a residential area. Chronister was transported Vanderbilt Hospital, returning home after treatment.
Charley Chronister was arrested on September 21,and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, prohibited weapon, aggravated domestic assault and two counts of reckless endangerment. His court date is set for Wednesday, October 2 and bond set at $8,500.00.
