This Saturday, come out to the Macon County Fairgrounds and enjoy the 5th Annual Haydenfest Outdoor Music Festival. This year, former American Idol contestant and three-time Country Top 10 artist Bucky Covington will be headlining.
“This is going to be a little bit different from those we’ve done in the past,” said organizer Fellisha Shrum. “We’ll still have the food and the t-shirts and the kids games. And we’ll have a live auction for a few items. But normally we have a lot more local bands. Unfortunately, when Bucky agreed to do this show, it put our date about a month sooner than normal.
“He didn’t run our other bands away at all, but having him really made things move a little faster than normal, so we decided we’d have this show now and then maybe have the normal local band lineup a little later, possibly in October. But when you get somebody like that offer to do it, you hate to say no.”
So this year, there will be two main acts: the band MedRock will be opening for Bucky. Gates open at 4, MedRock goes on between 5:00 and 5:30, and Bucky will be on at 7:00 (he’ll play to 8:30 or 9:00).
Among the items up for auction are two guitars, one signed by American Idol star Scotty McCreery, and the other one signed by Bucky.
Tickets are $15. Kids 10 and under get in free.
This event is in memory of Hayden Shrum, who organized the first music festival like it five years ago.
